A New Brewery and Taproom Design For Victory Brewing Company

GKV Architects’ latest Brewery and Taproom design

GKV Architects is proud to announce that our latest Brewery and Taproom design for Victory Brewing is now open for business in the City of Philadelphia. The location is ideal, at 1776 Benjamin Franklin Parkway, adjacent to Logan Square Park and halfway between City Hall and the Philadelphia Museum of Art.

The taproom and brewery are the results of a gut renovation of a formerly neglected property. The renovation required the complete demolition of old finishes, cladding, roofing, and infrastructure down to the existing concrete and steel building frame.

In order to create a new and reimagined facility, the design and planning required the replacement and upgrade of the building structure and infrastructure. This includes a new HVAC system, a new electrical service and electrical wiring, new plumbing, new waste removal, and structural reinforcement to increase the capacity of the floors to support the brewing operation.

The design also includes a new public face on the parkway. The old façade, windows, and roof were removed and then replaced with a new building façade, including new brick and tile, new energy-efficient windows, a new canopy, and signage.

The client asked for a design that would welcome both the business crowd of downtown Philadelphia and the residents of local neighborhoods. The interior design showcases the impressive “Can Art” created by the Victory Brewing graphics team; particularly the designs that reflect Victory’s pride of their hometown, Philadelphia.

Redesign of the existing space posed many challenges. The space itself was quite small and had very low ceilings for a taproom and brewery. The geometry of the floor plan was irregular, inefficient and a challenge for accessibility.

The shining steel brew tanks of Victory Brewing

GKV Architects proposed a plan to open the indoor bar area and extend it, visually, to the outdoor terrace and sidewalk in order to stretch the floor plan and connect to the outdoors and views of the city. The interior finishes are a combination of warm wood finishes and colorful furniture and graphics alongside elements of industrial grit, like welded steel rails and stairs, open concrete slab ceilings, and exposed structural steel and concrete beams and columns.

Finally, the brewing facility sits adjacent to the taproom and is clearly visible through glass panels. The shining steel brew tanks, precision machinery, infrastructure, piping, pumps, and all the workings of the brewing process are intimately connected to the taproom and the guests’ experience.

The brewery and taproom design showcases Victory’s product and brand while placing it firmly in its birthplace, the City of Brotherly Love.
