The New York City Human Resources Administration (HRA) at 470 Vanderbilt Avenue occupies a space that was originally a tire factory warehouse. GKV Architects converted the existing warehouse into a 400,000 square feet office space. The renovation and adaptive reuse work included two new ground floor lobbies, waiting rooms, customer service areas, a training center, a 100-person assembly space, interview rooms, conference rooms, and general office space. Spanning 6 floors, HRA had large floor plates, and one of the project requirements was to adopt DCAS/DRES' open plan guidelines. Additionally, a great deal of thought was given in laying out accesses and security points to differentiate between the public and private space, since most areas of the program were a combination of both.
