The New York Foundling, a non-for-profit organization, asked GKV Architects to convert administrative office space into a Charter Middle School. The existing building housed a charter elementary school and a pediatric clinic on the lower floors with administrative office space for the New York Foundling on the upper three floors. The scope of work included a dance studio, student lounge, teachers offices, nurses office, classrooms, art room, science room, and a lecture hall. The construction time was limited to after school hours and the summer break, though the pediatric clinic was still in operation. The schedule was therefore very rigit and long lead items needed to be pre purchased to make the deadline for school opening in the fall.
