Samuel Tredwell Skidmore House

New York, NY

9,000 square feet

Much effort went into achieving historic accuracy for the restoration and adaptive reuse of the Samuel Tredwell Skidmore House, transforming the Greek Revival-style house that previously sat in a state of decay and adapting it into 10 luxury rental apartments for Atlantic Development Group. Skidmore House received landmark status from New York City Landmarks Preservation Commission in 1970 and it is also listed on the National Register of Historic Places. As such, GKV Architects worked closely with Landmarks Preservation Commission and conservationists to design the restoration of the original building, utilizing drawings from 1845 by the original architects to learn how the building was intended. Today, the 9,000 square feet landmark has been fully restored and adapted into unique apartments, featuring studio, 1-bedroom and 2-bedroom units.
